WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a workout that focuses on strength, stability and agility. All exercises begin with a strong "Powerhouse" which inclueds all muscles around the pelvis and trunk. Strong core muscles help with problems in the joints in order to stabilize them better and to make them more resilient.
Who is Pilates for?
Pilates is suitable for all ages. Our youngest customer is 7 years and our oldest 92 years old. Since Due to the fact that Pilates contains a certain order of exercises and the exclusive-coach-service, is trained with exercises and controlled with an exclusive coach service, the age does not matter. Especially in preventing injuries, illnesses or other health issues, this training method is ideal and successful especially during physiotherapy.
What is the difference between Matwork and training on a machine?
Joe Pilates Matwork itself has always called it “homework”. The mat exercises are especially good for warming up a training session. When you learn the sequence of mat exercises, it is also very good for homework. Anyway it is an advantage to practice in the Studio because a coach observes and corrects you and the participants for the whole session, if necessary.
Working on machines trains all muscle groups. The springs are resistant and so the muscles gain strength. In addition the machines can provide better stability in the joints and improve the extensibility. In any Pilates Studio you should find following devices: Reformer, Cadillac, High Chair, Wundachair, Ladder Barrel, Small Barrel, Spine Corrector, Wall Unit, Ped i Pull and Magic Circle. Furthermore there shouold be a Foot Corrector, Toes Corrector and the Jump Board. The coach chooses the perfect training program depending on fitness and Pilates level of the participants. You can individually get trained alone and in groups of 2, 3 or 4 persons.
How to begin Matwork or training on machines?
Pilates is a training system for any beginners, whether on the mat or the equipment. The coach adapts the exercises for each participant.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable clothes, socks or barefoot and a good mood. In both studios there are wardrobes and a place to shower. Tea, coffee and water are available for free.

THE J. H. Pilates Story
Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born in 1883 in Mönchengladbach near Dusseldorf in Germany. His father was an athlete and his mother naturopath. Even as a child, the young Pilates was anxious to fight his own physical deficits. Joseph practiced sports such as swimming, boxing and Yoga because he suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatoid arthritis. Over the years he learned Eastern and Western types of exercises and Yoga. At the age of 14, he became an anatomical model due to his perfectly defined and muscular body. In Germany Pilates was not very successful as a boxer and athlete. He was also an excellent skier and scuba diver.
1912 Joseph Pilates traveled to England for pushing forward his boxing career. There he found a job as a circus performer. In 1914, Pilates was a star. British people were amazed by the Greek Statue Show that he performed with his brother Fred.
In 1926, his first Pilates Studio in New York got opened and the story began.
